Traffic Control Technician

 

A Traffic Control Technician (TCT) is a critical link in the success of Traffic Safety Services, Inc. An effective TCT on the job ensures the travel control set up provides a safe working environment and a safe travel way that does not cause a threat to workers and the general traveling public in the construction zone.

 

  • TCT understands the DOT requirements, items in the contract, the contractors proposed operations & Part VI on the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

  • TCT ensure they are on the job site for the layout, installation, and removal of traffic control devices when switching and returning traffic on interstate projects.

  • Proficient in reading maps and traffic control plans and specifications.

  • Ensures to the initial layout and to inspect and have devices, including replacements, delivered to the job site before installation and to engage with proper set up, adjustment, tear down, removal of traffic control devices, pick up and maintain traffic control devices.

  • Review the project day & night within 24 hours, monthly and after each change in the traffic control set up of the installation of the traffic control devices,

  • Propose changes to improve flow of traffic through the work zone.

  • Provide the engineer with a 24-hour contact number and return the engineer's call within two hours of the time of the call.

  • Assist with the manufacture of different types of signs and traffic control devices.

  • Know how to call in locates.

  • Have working knowledge & clear understanding of all hand tools, small power tools and other tools including signals & message boards.

  • Able to perform minor repairs on equipment as needed.

  • A valid drivers license is required.

  • Wyoming: Class "A" CDL or Class "A" Restricted CDL is a plus.

  • Able to operate forklift, skid-steer and small walk behind grinders.

  • Lift, carry and stack materials and traffic control devices.

  • Maybe asked to supervise, assist & train new hires with traffic control responsibilities as needed.

 

Wyoming:

  • TCT can include working all over the state of Wyoming

  • TCT requires two plus years of experience as a Laborer.

  • Per WYDOT requirements, TSS must "provide a maintainer if traffic is being diverted or protected by channelizing devices, barricades, portable signs, flagging or pilot car operations"

     

  • TCT manage all flaggers and laborers assigned to the job. with the following:

    • Scheduling

    • Paperwork including time sheets and daily flagging

    • logs

    • Ensuring breaks and lunches are provided in a timely

    • manner.

    • On the job training, as necessary.

    • Adjust and move flagger set ups.

    • Complete and submit flagger log hours/time sheets daily.

       

      Additional Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Responsible for following all safety rules and regulations.

  • Report to Crew Foreman or Operations Manager. Assist any/or all departments, such as striping, traffic control and sign shop, to assure the timely completion of jobs and projects.

  • Must conduct yourself in a manner promoting a professional atmosphere by being a team player, self motivated, organized and having a positive attitude.

  • Must show respect for your work place and co-workers.

  • Maintain a clean shop, yard, equipment and vehicle.

  • Must be capable of loading, safely securing and unloading trucks, trailers and/or equipment independently with materials.

  • Able to operate motor vehicle, hook up trailers and back up trailers.

  • Wash and clean vehicles and devices used for and/or on the job site.

  • Inspect, maintain, fuel and stock truck, equipment and vehicles assigned to jobs.

  • Must have good oral and/or written English communication skills with co-workers, customers, contractors and engineers.

  • Work week varies - overtime is required and expected.

  • Capable of organizing and maintaining inventory.

  • Must have basic math skills, including the ability to read a tape measurer.

  • Ability to maintain a clean job site.

  • Noise level of the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

  • Job regularly requires one to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms.

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, moving equipment and machinery parts, moving traffic, fumes and airborne particles.

  • Prepare and submit required daily logs, time sheets, pull sheets, usage sheets and paperwork on job site documentation are neat, complete and accurate and all receipts are submitted on time.

  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.

  • Wages start out with hourly pay /salary based on experience.

  • All other duties as assigned.
