Traffic Control Technician

 

A Traffic Control Technician (TCT) is a critical link in the success of Traffic Safety Services, Inc. An effective TCT on the job ensures the Traffic Control set up provides a safe working environment and a safe travel way that does not cause a threat to workers and the general traveling public in the construction zone.

 

  • TCT understands the DOT requirements, items in the contract, the contractors' proposed operations and Part VI on the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

  • TCT ensures they are on the job site for the layout, installation, and removal of traffic control devices.

  • Proficient in reading maps and Traffic Control plans and specifications.

  • Propose changes to improve flow of traffic through the work zone.

  • Provide the engineer with a 24-hour contact number and return the engineer's call within two hours of the time of the call.

  • Assist with the manufacture of different types of signs and Traffic Control devices.

  • Ability to request locates.

  • Able to perform minor repairs on equipment, as needed.

  • A valid driver's license is required.

  • CDL may be required.

  • Have the ability to operate a forklift, skid-steer and small walk behind grinders.

  • Lift, carry and stack materials and Traffic Control devices.

  • May be asked to supervise, assist and train new hires with Traffic Control responsibilities, as needed.

Additional Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Responsible for following all safety rules and regulations.

  • Report to Crew Foreman or Operations Manager. 

  • Must conduct yourself in a manner promoting a professional atmosphere by being a team player, self motivated, organized and having a positive attitude.

  • Must show respect for your work place and co-workers.

  • Must be capable of loading, safely securing and unloading trucks, trailers and/or equipment.

  • Able to operate motor vehicle, hook up trailers and back up trailers.

  • Wash and clean vehicles and devices.

  • Maintain a clean shop, yard, and job site.

  • Inspect and maintain equipment, including pickups and trailers.

  • Work week varies - overtime is required and expected.

  • Capable of organizing and maintaining inventory.

  • Must have basic math skills, including the ability to read a tape measure.

  • Noise level of the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

  • Job regularly requires one to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms.

  • Regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and move more than 100 pounds.

  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, moving equipment and machinery parts, moving traffic, fumes and airborne particles.

  • Prepare and submit required daily logs, time sheets, pull sheets, usage sheets and paperwork.

  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.

  • All other duties as assigned.
