The job of a Traffic Control Flagger is the most important one on the work crew. Respectful interactions with TSS employees, DOT employees and employees of the prime contractor are critical and you must have the ability to receive and communicate specific instructions clearly, firmly and courteously. The lives of all individuals in the workspace depend on you and how well you carry out your assigned duties listed below.

  • Able to guide traffic safely through TSS work zones and protect the safety of the crews, motorist, bicyclist, pedestrians, trucks, equipment and yourself at all times.
  • Be alert. NEVER turn your back on, or stand in the path of moving traffic.
  • A valid drivers license is required or must have a reliable source of transportation.
  • Must have good oral and written English communication skills.
  • Job regularly requires one to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Required to be clean, neat and fully dressed in provided safety clothing and gear at all times when on the job including but not limited to safety vest and hard hat.
  • Always be prepared on each shift for changing weather and all conditions by bringing suitable safety clothing, gear and other necessary things like sunscreen, insect repellant and a water bottle.
  • Flag in accordance with the "Flagger Traffic Control" handbook and direction and training provided by the Traffic Control Maintainer (TCM) and/or Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS).
  • Ability to relocate depending on location of job site.
  • Communicate any change to availability on scheduled shifts as soon as possible to TCM / TCS.

Montana: Flaggers work primarily in eastern Montana, but can include

working all over the state of Montana.

 

Additional Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Responsible for following all safety rules and regulations.
  • Report to Crew Foreman or Operations Manager. Assist any/or all departments, such as striping, traffic control and sign shop, to assure the timely completion of jobs and projects.
  • Must conduct yourself in a manner promoting a professional atmosphere by being a team player, self motivated, organized and having a positive attitude.
  • Must show respect for your work place and co-workers.
  • Maintain a clean shop, yard, equipment and vehicle.
  • Must be capable of loading, safely securing and unloading trucks, trailers and/or equipment independently with materials.
  • Able to operate motor vehicle, hook up trailers and back up trailers.
  • Wash and clean vehicles and devices used for and/or on the job site.
  • Inspect, maintain, fuel and stock truck, equipment and vehicles assigned to jobs.
  • Must have good oral and/or written English communication skills with co-workers, customers, contractors and engineers.
  • Work week varies - overtime is required and expected.
  • Capable of organizing and maintaining inventory.
  • Must have basic math skills, including the ability to read a tape measurer.
  • Ability to maintain a clean job site.
  • Noise level of the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Job regularly requires one to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, moving equipment and machinery parts, moving traffic, fumes and airborne particles.
  • Prepare and submit required daily logs, time sheets, pull sheets, usage sheets and paperwork on job site documentation are neat, complete and accurate and all receipts are submitted on time.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Wages start out with hourly pay /salary based on experience.
  • All other duties as assigned.
